The Benefits of Exercise For Your Dog

Animal-Tender

Getting daily exercise is one of the most critical components in making sure your pet lives a long and healthy life. No matter their age, gender, breed, or size, exercise has many physical and mental benefits:

  • Exercise helps keep your pet’s weight in check by burning off any excess calories. You should discuss what your pet’s ideal weight should be with your local vet.
  • Exercise helps reduce anxiety and stress in pets by allowing them to get rid of excess energy and feel happy.
  • Exercise provides opportunities for socialization and interaction with other pets.
  • Exercise keeps your pet’s joints active and the blood circulating, both of which can ease any pain that they may be experiencing. However, if your pet is showing signs of lameness or stiffness, visit a vet immediately.

In general you want to try and give your pet exercise every day. Depending on the breed or age of the pet, you may need to give your pet more exercise than others. Even pets that are in their senior years need a daily walk in their everyday routine. Some good options for exercise include walking, running, playdates with other pets, and pet daycares.
